Book excerpt: Snorri Sturluson was killed on 22 September 1241 at Reykholt, where he lived the last years of his life. He was becoming known as a major historian and as a man of great political influence. The Little Horse is a novel about the last five days of Snorri’s life. He is haunted by the fear of his son Orækja, who he is afraid will turn against him. Snorre tries to write a saga of his own life, where he wants to refute all those who oppose him in Norway and Iceland, and defend himself against rumours that he is power-hungry and a deceitful womanizer. While he waits to meet Margaret, a woman who challenges him in every way, the killers get ready to execute the order they have received to kill him.
